Artist Name: Tessa Koller

Town: St. Charles, IL

Education: BFA from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design

Medium: Acrylics using multiple tools including strings, sticks, scrapers, and brushes to achieve specific textures

Inspiration: Influenced by the environment, she is continually inspired by nature and the landscapes in the St. Charles, IL area.

Artist Statement: Using a combination of artistic styles, Tessa works to bridge the gap between abstraction and realism with a minimal color palette. Her paintings represent a balance of control and loss of control with vivid and dynamic compositions. Despite lifelong severe, chronic health problems, Tessa uses art as a connective thread that allows her to embrace her differences and hopes that her artistic abilities will inspire others.

Encouraging Words: For those looking to become full-time or part-time artist, Tessa advises to keep creating and making things as often as possible. “Don’t be afraid to challenge the norm and push the envelope. Be adventurous and distinctive in your approach to mediums, color mixing, and subject matter. Individualism is the goal if you want to create beautiful and intriguing artwork that sets you apart from other artists in a saturated industry.”
