Artist Name: Kathi Kuchler, Certified Botanical Watercolorist & Illustrator from Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL -- an intensive study program that was discontinued in 2015.

Town: Batavia, IL

Preferred Medium: Watercolor

Kudos to Kathi for acceptance into the highly respected World Wide Art Magazine. Issued annually, it is an international, juried art anthology and considered an authoritative art resource in the promotion of contemporary art. Worldwide, it is used by collectors, gallery owners, art consultants, interior designers, curators, and other art professionals. Each volume of their publications has a dedicated annual exhibition at the Southern Nevada Museum of Fine Arts, where all artists are invited to exhibit.

Artist Statement: “I love finding beauty in the world of nature -- seeing the delicate details of homegrown orchids or in an iris. My style is realism depicting the nature’s details through art whether it's a floral, landscape or still life.

Kathi says: “I have loved painting landscapes ever since living in Colorado (a good part of my life) where I began painting mountains, evergreens, aspen trees and snow scenes. Now in Illinois, I love to paint trees in autumn. “I'm also inspired painting flowers in any medium because of their variety of shapes and colors. I also enjoy painting in different styles and whatever the mood is ‘for the day’ or season. At times I paint landscapes very loosely using a 3-inch brush for foliage or background. At other times, I will use a tiny 00 size watercolor brush for the details in botanicals. I become totally “absorbed” in the subject matter, whatever the tools or medium I’m using.”

Additional Information: Kathi, a busy full-time artist, began painting at age 14 in oils and later turned to watercolors because of their portability. During her Morton Arboretum classes she began working with pen & ink and colored pencil, along with water soluble oils. She enjoys enlarging flowers on large canvasses. Additionally, she makes jewelry by inserting miniature prints of her paintings into cabochon pendants then embellishing them by adding vintage-like charms. And, she also upcycles silk scarves with wool felting.

Locally, you can purchase her original artwork, prints, notecards, floral-themed jewelry or scarves at Gia Bella in Batavia, The Rustic Fox in North Aurora, Gallery 200 in West Chicago, DuPage Art League in Wheaton, and at various Christmas Markets such as Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles.

Art memberships include: Gallery 200 (West Chicago, IL), Nature’s Artist Guild (Morton Arboretum), DuPage Art League (Wheaton, IL), Fine Line Creative Arts Center & Gallery (St. Charles, IL), Greater Geneva Art Guild (Geneva, IL), Water Street Studios (Batavia, IL), St. Charles Arts Council, (St. Charles, IL).
