Announced August 19, 2019, Michael Divelbiss, who has taught art at this Oak Brook area school (located at 60 Regent Drive) since 2002 was delighted to learn the news. “Mr. D. “ as he is affectionately called by his students was my son, David Kornecki’s, classmate at Wheaton-Warrenville South High School and later his roommate for a semester at Iowa University. (Don’t ask me what their housekeeping was like that year, but the boys definitely had fun!)

The Illinois Art Education Association (IAEA) recognizes outstanding art educators each year for their professional performance inspiring students and others in the community about art. On Mike’s FB page, he writes that he was “incredibly humbled and honored to be recognized as this year’s Elementary Art Teacher of the Year by the IAEA. Words cannot express my gratitude to those teachers and mentors who have inspired and guided me along this wonderful journey! I love my job and thank God that I get to do what I love each and every day!”

He will be formally recognized at the organization’s annual conference in St. Charles on November 22, 2019.

Congratulations, Mike!
