Entering Juried Art Venues? Larry Sanders Gives Your Creations a Head Start Toward Acceptance

Updated: Jan 12, 2022

Highly respected photographer, Larry Sanders, poses here in his Milwaukee, WI studio. He enjoys the challenge of capturing the innate beauty of each art piece his clients produce.

Fine art and craft photographer, Larry Sanders, needs to be on SPEED DIAL for every artist seeking admission to competitive, juried venues. Whether artwork is 2-D or 3-D, he helps artists put their best foot forward with unparalleled expertise that captures every subtle nuance of a piece of art.

Larry’s skills were honed from working many years in the photographic industry. Growing up in a photography-centric and artistic family, he started learning “the old-fashioned way” – by working alongside the camera professionals in the three camera stores that his stepdad owned at the time in the Chicago area.

Today, Larry’s art-based clients run the gamut from creators and collectors to curators and museums. The media of his art clients include jewelry, pottery, paintings, sculpture, glass, fiber, wood, metal and more. He has made working within the art field his specialty since 1993.

He says he coined his business motto -- “Images with Impact” -- because he takes pride in never compromising on quality.

Setting up proper lighting, using the right cameras, and spending hours making imagery adjustments at the computer deliver just the right results his clients have come to expect.

“I enjoy the creative element of improving upon an image now in ways that couldn’t be done with film,” Larry says.

“And, keeping good notes on how I created the photograph for each artist I work with is imperative. Think of it as how a doctor records information in a patient’s chart. In order to duplicate the process for a similar piece of artwork from that artist, my notes are readily available. I also archive images in three or four different ways in case an artist loses the photographs.”

Artists follow these steps to work with Larry:

  • Start by contacting him via email at: lzs@gowebway.com or call: 877-SANDERS (877-726-3377) to discuss the scope of the job.

  • Next, deliver the artwork in person or ship to his location at 1522 W. Pierce Street, Milwaukee, WI 53204. Items will be shipped back when photos are approved.

  • If visiting in person, Larry requests clients be “vaxed and masked”.

  • Fees depend on the medium and the complexity of the job photographing it.

  • Jewelry is priced per piece, unless otherwise noted. Cabochon stones such as labradorite and other iridescents, Larry notes, need special attention. Glass work or pottery pieces are charged by the hour.

  • Larry sends digital proofs to the artist for either approval or changes.

With the new year coming into focus, many artists are currently planning their upcoming 2022 shows. It’s a good time now to consider embracing Larry’s motto: “Images with Impact” by elevating those first impressions of one’s own artwork by using expert photography that generates bigger and better opportunities.
