Stop by Cantigny Park in Wheaton, IL to view an outdoor art exhibit, “Alebrijes: Creatures of a Dream World” from June 12 through October 31, 2022 featuring nearly 50 creatures, ranging from just a few feet to up to fourteen feet tall. They are being crafted by six artists in Mexico City recruited by the Mexican Cultural Center DuPage based in West Chicago, IL. The word alebrije—pronounced ah-leh-bree-heh—refers to imaginary creatures that possess elements from different animals. The artistic tradition of alebrijes gained widespread exposure in the 2017 Disney/Pixar film, Coco.
